Steve Richardson
Originally from the north east of England, I moved to London to learn the craft of tattooing in 2004. After a traditional apprenticeship under my mentor Steve Baron at A True Love Tattoo, I joined the team at the newly opened Skunx Tattoo in 2008. Having spent almost 16 eventful years at Skunx, my time there came to an end in early 2024, approaching what was to be my 20th year as a tattoo artist.
Over the years I have developed and honed my skills to encompass many different techniques and styles. I’ve always had an affinity with western traditional tattooing and the classic motifs that adorned sailors and rockers - bold and timeless imagery that can spotted from across the room.
After visiting Japan in 2015, I fell in love with traditional Japanese Irezumi. Eastern tattooing that was developed from the art of woodblock printing and the imagery derived from its mythology. Other than the imagery itself, I have often found the two styles of tattooing similar. Big bold lines and black shades coupled with solid and bright colours that bring the designs to life.
Although I love tattooing in colour, I also enjoy tattooing in black and grey shade. Sometimes heavier blacks that give the design a bolder, higher contrast... and sometimes more delicate shades coupled with finer line work.
Now plying my trade at Haunted, I’m happy to turn my hand to various styles of tattooing. I’m thankful that over the years I’ve had the opportunity to experiment with many styles. I feel I am now in a place where I can specialise in a particular style when necessary, but do not to limit myself - and pride myself - on being able to turn out quality tattooing of all different kinds.
Whether you want old school, neo-traditional, Japanese, black work, or full colour - large custom work or palm sized flash - I've got you covered!
