Aftercare Instructions

Congratulations on your new tattoo! Proper aftercare is essential to ensure your tattoo heals beautifully and maintains its vibrancy.

Please note: Your tattoo artist will go over the aftercare for you and your new tattoo and it may deviate slightly from the general instructions below.

Follow these steps to promote optimal healing:

1. Leave the Bandage On
Your artist may cover your tattoo with a bandage or plastic wrap. Keep it on for the recommended time (typically 2-4 hours) to protect it from bacteria and irritation. If your artist uses "second skin" it can be left on for a couple days and they will go over the details with you. Please make sure you understand how long to keep the initial wrapping and what to expect.

2. Wash Gently
After removing the bandage, there will be what looks like ink and fluids under the bandage. This is perfectly normal! Gently wash your tattoo with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free soap. Use clean hands to gently cleanse the area—do not use a washcloth or sponge. Rinse thoroughly and pat dry with a clean paper towel.

3. Apply Moisturizer
Once your tattoo is dry, apply a thin layer of fragrance-free, alcohol-free tattoo ointment or lotion. Avoid over-moisturizing, as this can clog pores and slow healing. Most artists recommend Bepanthen ointment. If you use Bepanthen or any ointment, be sure to use a small amount in a thin layer.

4. Avoid Soaking & Sun Exposure
For the first 2-3 weeks:
- Do not submerge your tattoo in water (no swimming, baths, or hot tubs—showers are fine).
- Keep your tattoo out of direct sunlight and avoid tanning beds.

5. Do Not Pick or Scratch
As your tattoo heals, it may scab or peel. This is normal! Do not pick at scabs or scratch the area, as this can cause scarring and color loss.

6. Wear Loose, Breathable Clothing
Tight clothing can cause irritation and excessive friction, slowing the healing process. Opt for soft, breathable fabrics to avoid discomfort.

7. Stay Hydrated & Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle
Drinking plenty of water and eating a well-balanced diet will support your body’s healing process.

8. Watch for Signs of Infection
Redness, excessive swelling, pus, or persistent pain may indicate infection. If you notice any of these symptoms, contact your tattoo artist or a healthcare professional immediately.

Healing Time
Most tattoos take 2-4 weeks to heal. Continue following these aftercare steps until your skin fully recovers.

If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out to your tattoo artist. Enjoy your new ink!
